Windows That Conquered Mt. Washington

Hi-Tech performed the windows installation for the WMTV broadcast faciltiy atop Mount Washington. The following correspondence is a testimonial from WMTV.

July 30, 1996

Dear Bill:

We have now gone through three winters since you installed new windows for WMTV in our transmitter building atop Mount Washington. I would like you to know how much the men and I who work here appreciate the year round comfort we are receiving from these windows. They are certainly superior to other windows we have tried in the past, and they truly, exceeded our expectations.

Mount Washington is host to the world's worst weather. The highest winds ever encountered by man were recorded fifty feet from our transmitter building at 231 miles an hour. We have hurricane winds (in excess of 75 mph! over 100 days each year. Our average wind velocity is 35 mph. Additionally, we have only 60 days of sunshine a year The rest of the time we are in the clouds with blowing fog, snow, or ice. The high winds, accompanied by cold temperatures, often yields chill factors 70 degrees below zero. It is difficult to comprehend these conditions. Summertime rain and fog, driven by these winds, will penetrate unimaginable places. In the winter, a nail hole left unchecked will pass enough snow to form drifts inside buildings.

Our initial concerns in replacing the windows, of course, was to keep the elements out. Water penetrated the old windows; they were cold and drafty. In the winter, blankets were hung on the inside, and special storm covers were put on the outside. Snow used to fill the gap between them; rain would blow in and freeze; and the) were always fogged up.

Thanks to your superior replacement windows, problems are a thing of the past. The windows are draft free. Snow, ice, and water do not penetrate, and the windows no longer fog up. They operate so easily, too, especially for cleaning. Another benefit we did not anticipated is a noticeable reduction in the noise that penetrates these new windows. And why wouldn't there be! With their superior insulating qualities, it follows there would be a reduction in sound penetration. Bill, you can be proud of both your product, and the men that installed them. They were courteous and professional. We are well pleased that we chose Hi-Tech Windows & Siding Installations.
